Lovely Tri-Colored Mini Red Velvet Heart Cakes Recipe

  • 2 sticks, 1 cup (240g) of butter
  • 2 cups (400g) of sugar
  • 2 tsp (10mL) of vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp (15mL) of white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp (15mL) of red dye
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 Tbsp (39g) of cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 cups (300g) of flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp (7.5g) of baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 1/2 cup (250mL) of buttermilk

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 16 Tbsp (240g) of butter
  • 4 cups (500g) of powdered sugar
  • 16 oz (450g) of cream cheese
  • pinch of salt
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly butter and flour your cake pan

  2. Using a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, or a hand mixer fitted with the paddle attachments, mix the butter on medium speed until it’s smooth and fluffy, about 1 minute. 
  3. Next add in your sugar, vinegar, red dye, and vanilla extract and continue to mix all of the ingredients together until combined. Then add in your eggs and mix just briefly for another 10 seconds just to incorporate the ingredients into the mixture.
  4. In a separate, large bowl, run all of your dry ingredients through a sieve to get out any lumps.
  5.  Using a spoon, stir the dry ingredients together to combine them. Add a third of the dry ingredients and half of the buttermilk to your mixer at a time, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula and continue to mix, to incorporate all of the ingredients. 
  6. Then use your heart cookie cutter to cut out your shapes, and decorate with icing!

  7. Serve and enjoy!
